"For many social media users, Black Twitter is the first way they hear of stories involving police brutality. In fact, I have found that hashtags have replaced breaking news headlines for some Black Twitter users," Deion Scott Hawkins writes.

Black Twitter’s Demise Would Make It Harder To Publicize Police Brutality

"A world without Black Twitter is a world void of robust, rapid and authentic information sharing on police brutality," Deion Hawkins writes.

Stop trying to make "the only ethical choice is to leave Twitter" happen unless you've made the choice to not listen to the Black communities who have explained why it's still important for many.

Yes, the owner is clearly, at a minimum, openly friendly with fascists. Now wait until you hear about the everyday lives of Black Americans in predominantly White communities and workplaces.

Make your choice but do not proclaim it to be "the only" reasonable choice.

If you want to shut down AI art, tell it to draw Disney characters in Disney styles.

Might not work, but Disney lawyers vs. Silicon Valley lawyers is a fight where someone you despise loses either way.

Someone just mentioned the differences between #Twitter and #Google regarding user data. Yes, indeed.

I've worked inside #Google twice. Their explicit rules, approvals, logging and "need to know" requirements for access to user data are most impressive. Anyone even attempting to access user data inappropriately is fired and marched out the door by security. This is part of why I have a great deal of trust in Google, and consider Elon's #Twitter to be utterly untrustworthy and totally beneath contempt.

I'd be fascinated to read a piece by an #autistic writer on how myths and projections around "savants" helped enable Twitter's owner, who is self-diagnosed, to conceal the fact that he's just a bumbling billionaire asshole with asshole friends and utterly banal far-right beliefs.

“When it comes to the Karuk Tribe, we have a constitution, and our sovereignty is embedded in that constitution,” says Bill Tripp.

“But when the federal government and agencies work with Tribes, they look at us more like an NGO with a couple of special privileges.”

Tribe and partners light up a forest to restore landscape in California

ORLEANS, California—An elemental smell wafts through the Klamath mountains in early autumn—woodsmoke. Despite the U.S. Forest Service’s intermittent bans on lighting fires in the forest, the Karuk Tribe is maintaining its cultural practice of intermittent burns to conserve their traditional lands in northern California. With the Tribe’s oversight, a partnership with the Forest Service and […]

Lawyers warn clients about the need to adopt & properly implement document retention policies to purge archived online corporate chatter. Seeing Twitter's new owner poking around Twitter's archives to dox former employees surely increases the urgency & salience of this need
Went to the Japanese Tea Garden today in SF. Hard to take a bad picture in the place.
Apothecary bill dated 1701. Includes rosemary, sage, healing plaisters, clysters, purging potions, bloodletting services. Also lists Venice Treacle, an ancient remedy of opium and viper flesh, also known as theriac (historically used to treat plague but also a supposed cure-all)
