But it's worth logging in to vote, if for no other reason than to hurt his feelings.

Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when Musk pulled the employee purge.
It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.
We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.
Sick of #twitter ?
Just go to the Playstore, search for Twitter. Don't reinstall it, but rate it with one star. Then select the three dots in the top right, with 'Flag As Inappropriate'. The next screen asks why you think it is inappropriate. Mark it as 'Contains Hate Speech', and submit.
Google does take these reports seriously. It's worth the effort.
About following people on other servers:
I'm on mstdn.social, Eugen is on mastodon.social.
If I see him *while browsing my own server*, it functions like Twitter: click to follow, even if they're on another server. Pic 1.
If I see him *while browsing on a server other than the one I'm on*, I'll get the popup. Pic 2. So I press copy, go back to my server, paste it into search, then follow through that. Pic 3.
Yes, the second method is cumbersome. But that's how to do it for now.

With all of the horrible things happening in the world, it’s nice to find the wins. Especially in the area of our environment. A group called Coral Guardian is restoring coral reefs, and it’s quite magnificent.
These photos represent 7 years of work on the Indonesia’s Hatamin Island. In this they have increased the fish population by 5x with 53k corals restored.

Welp, we had a Covid Exposure around here.
We had a small group of family gather for the holiday. Our protocol was for everyone to test daily before gathering, keep CR boxes running in the space, and have vent fans on and windows cracked. Everyone in this group agreed that in the weeks leading up, they would wear an N95 minimum while inside anywhere people are or have been, so these precautions seemed sufficient.
As it turns out, several of our old folks had been convinced *by their health care providers* that a surgical mask was sufficient protection from Covid. These are high-risk people with lots of co-morbidities. One of these guys just popped positive today.
I'm irritated that my people changed the plan without telling me, but I really feel they've been fooled. I'm particularly angry that Covid has been framed as an individual problem. This is about community. Whether you get and spread Covid affects the community. Had a mild case? Who gives a shit. You very well may have given it to someone who died of it, and who you never spoke to nor will ever see again. We are all responsible.
