Wow! I bet it was the same storm that hit us. We are often part of the same weather systems. My power came back on again around 9:30 last night, but the 5 hour reprieve when it came back on got my fridge cooled down & my phone etc. recharged. I know it’s their job, but the power company must have been all hands on deck to get everyone back online so quickly.
There’s still a big chunk of the island not restored yet, estimated late tonight. R’s descendants are all in that area.

WIRED became another new client, and my first piece there was advice for workers: Worried About Losing Your Job? Pack a Digital Go Bag.

The days of getting any notice  whatsoever about a layoff are basically gone, and it's so important that workers keep copies of things that are theirs to keep, such as annual employee reviews, salary history,  pay records, and in some cases, contacts and copies of work to be used as samples (like for artists and designers).

It’s now more common for layoffs to happen through account lockouts. Every employee needs to download their most important files from work, and update them periodically.

alas, it went out again, but I had 5 hrs to recharge phone, cool fridge and freezer and warm the house. I went back to my file clearing project, did some dishes and it’s supposed to be back on by 10. some of my friends slightly south didn’t even get that, so I’m lucky.

Yes! I'm busy recharging everything in case it goes out again tonight with the predicted high winds. What a pain! I'ver very glad we are warm again and thankful for the people who do the dangerous work of fixing the power lines.
