I remember when W was announced, the things they emphasised were:

A) "Now Europeans can be the information gatekeepers too!"

B) "Now Europeans can harvest data too!"

It's as if they looked at facebook and twitter and focused on the very worst aspects of them as what they wanted to reproduce, rather than on the basic humans-talking-to-humans aspect.

It's very frustrating to me that so many people seem to be willing to hand over curation to an algorithm.

You don't need it! You can get recommendations from other people, use a web search, follow things in chronological order, use lists to filter your chronological follow list down by topic, and so many more alternatives to handing over agency to someone else's black box.
