👋 Hi, this is the official Medium account on our new instance! This is our home on @me.dm, where we’ll be boosting writers and publications, sharing stories, and trying to deepen our understanding of Mastodon and the fediverse.

To get started, we thought we’d share this list of resources about getting up and running if you, like us, are new here: https://scottlamb.blog/list/f4843d1cc80f

I've been researching how ancient civilizations cleaned their butts after pooping (I'm writing a book!) and y'all, the Ancient Greeks were SUPER punk rock. They used bits of broken ceramic like a scoop (don't worry - the edges were smoothed out) and sometimes THE BITS OF POTTERY WERE INSCRIBED WITH THE NAMES OF THEIR ENEMIES.

They literally wiped their butts with their enemies' names. I am in awe.

Why are all the big, super-profitable tech companies doing layoffs right now? And what have, historically, been the results?

Layoffs literally kill people, he said.

I've seen a couple of attempts to cut back on excess meetings in orgs that had way too many useless meetings and they somehow managed to make things even worse.

People who have a high propensity for creating useless meetings kept creating useless meetings and filled up any potentially freed up time within months, but a number of useful meetings that were driving real change were killed and never recovered.

I'm more or less part of the fediverse since 2017, but I still can't get over the fact that you people are describing images, very often making me almost content with not being able to see them at all. I've never seen so many people taking time to write meaningful descriptions on this level anywhere else.

It really, really means a lot! Thank you for making it awesome for everyone! Keep 'em coming! ☺️
