After all that ranting about @Purism offering a service no one needs to sign up for to use it, I want to make a different point.
Finally, at the very moment all seemed to be lost, a small company takes on the almighty G-Mafia and develops a smartphone from ground up as open as one couldn't even imagine. So, Purism, you're doing great. Take care!
I ordered @Purism's #Librem5 phone one year ago because I support their vision. I do not expect the 1st generation to match every feature my Android phone offers.
My hope is that open source phones can etch out a small market for themselves, enough to make it profitable for ethical companies to continue to improve and develop a privacy oriented alternative to the duopoly that is Android and iOS.
I see it as the (humble) beginning of the end for #SurveillanceCapitalism.
