It was a conflict for me.
on one hand: I don't need or want a $600 monster phone.
On the other hand economy of scale has spoiled us on pricing,
$600 is probable a reasonable price for a smallish batch and if we don't support the manufactures with ideals co-aligned with ours they will disappear and we will be stuck with the cheap junk that sells.
on the third had yuck linux :(
on the forth hand at least it's not android.
@ephemeris Yep, thats what I though too. Sure, you can get a phone for 200 which is more powewerful in numbers. But I think that's where you pay with you're data.
On my desktop I also don't use linux but openbsd. But for a phone it seems to be a good option, and at least it's a quantum leap, compared to what we have from the "standard" manufacturers. Purism tries to make the impossible possible, and at every post from them I think "Wow, they do this too?". And I'm not that easily impressed.
