@google's reCAPTCHA served via the domain google.com is known to be inaccessible inπŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ due to censorship. As an alternative option, @googledevs suggests replacing it with recaptcha.net. This domain is now also blocked by the Great Firewall via DNS poisoning.

Given (1) many websites use ReCaptcha.net and (2) the way GFW poisons DNS resolutions with public IPs of foreign organizations, including @meta @Twitter etc. These orgs (though unrelated) may see many HTTP(S) requests for ReCaptcha.net.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³'s Great Firewall just started blocking ssrn.com of the Social Science Research Network (@ssrn), which was accessible earlier this month. Tests from GreatFire.org’s Blocky show DNS poisoning at many locations in mainland.

The Research and Analysis of Standard-Setting Processes Proposed Research Group (rasprg) has been chartered in the IRTF (https://datatracker.ietf.org/rg/rasprg/about/). Chairs are @ignactro and Niels ten Oever.

This proposed research group aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, policy makers, standards users, and standards developers to study standardisation processes across SDOs, with a particular focus on Internet standards-setting in the IETF. The research is aimed at informing the comprehension of standardisation processes and policies, and possibly providing tools and insights. This will be done through the organization of working sessions, as well as contributions to open data and open source software for standard-setting analysis. The group aims to produce joint reports to inform the IETF, the research community, and the broader standards-setting community.

Attention tech journalists:

Can I convince you or your colleagues to report on some really important and potentially very consequential Internet governance issues that have been going on? This really is kind of a big deal and almost no one is reporting on it. Boosts appreciated.

The Regional Internet Registries (#RIRs) such as #AFRINIC, #APNIC, and #RIPE, which among other things, manage the numbers (e.g., IP addresses) have quite literally been under attack at the governance level.

AFRINIC is currently in a very uncertain state and is probably the place you should start your research. Begin here and work your way backwards or forwards:

Elon Musk created a special system for showing you all his tweets first

After his Super Bowl tweet did worse numbers than President Biden’s, Twitter’s CEO ordered major changes to the algorithm. Twitter engineers built a system designed to ensure that Musk benefits from previously unheard-of promotion of his tweets to the entire user base.
