I got asked this by a few different journalists today, so I'm just going to share the numbers. 10,801 people signed up on different Mastodon servers today, and 22,139 since last week.
Mastodon is operated, maintained, and moderated by different passionate individuals and organizations, often out of their own pocket. Check if your server accepts donations on its about page if you want to help out!

Cozy day in #boulder
But I’m too old to try new things

I suppose an intro is in order. I joined Mastodon recently - still figuring stuff out. Was on twitter briefly in 2007 and then pretty much 2008 till now. Deleted my account in 2019 because of trump but got back on again when we moved to boulder.

Born in Panama. Moved to states in 1991. UTSA undergrad, SUNY Binghamton grad. 26 years in tech - incl 12 years my own firm (triple dog dare media), 10 years Apple, now at Google.

Married to @hopedoty for 29.5 years. She hasn’t changed the locks. Yet.

I've changed servers due to technical issues and am reposting my introduction, as none of my posts migrated πŸ™

Good afternoon everyone! I am new to Mastadon and prefer the tusk to the musk. I am an artist who works primarily in clay and specialize in raku pottery and explore mythology and nature in my work. Some of my other interests include:

#nature #garden #hiking #winemaking #offgrid #space #mythology #art #spirituality #kindnessmatters

Just gazed into the contents of the #FediBlock tag and gained a whole new level of respect and appreciation for friendly admins

Two other things I learned today: on both your home timelines and the local and federated ones, toots and responses-to-toots are going to show up the same way.

If you don't want to clutter these timelines with more one-to-one conversations, you can click on the earth below the toot box and select "unlisted" : the toot can be read by anyone but will not show up on timelines
