Anyway can anyone recommend the best and most idiot-proof guide to moving Mastodon servers?
So I’ve let this account languish. I’m on Post (@popehat) and I’ve been avoiding Mastodon only because I need to figure out how to switch servers (this one is blocked all over). I’m logged in on my iPad but, hilariously, I can’t find where I wrote my password and the “recover password” function isn’t working or is super-slow to send an email. Anyway. I intend to build up and use a Mastodon account now that I’m leaving Twitter but it might take a bit.

I saw that it was Aaron Swartz’ 36th birthday, and looked back at what I wrote about his case, and his suicide, almost ten years ago.

It all holds up, but it’s kind of darkly amusing to figure out that when I was writing this about how well people mask their depression I was profoundly depressed and nobody knew. So, QED, I guess?

This week on the Serious Trouble podcast: Donald Trump has a bad day in New York, files a dumb lawsuit against the better judgment of his few capable lawyers, Dave Portnoy finds out what actual malice isn’t, Elon Musk doesn’t know what tortious interference is.

Serious Trouble
Having some issues with this particular server, which is apparently blocked from a number of servers. Once I figure out how will be moving.

Last night, out on the town at dinner, in a moment of questionable judgment* and weakness**, kid3 asked to post to my Twitter account. I figured she’d post something snarky and cute, but she asked all of my followers to follow her. Now people are trolling me by sending her links to local kittens that need adoption and urging her to add more cats to the household.

*three very god bourbons
**as I now recall she said “have a third one dad why not”

It feels as if the whole “system” is slow and non-responsive right now, so it’s a bit hard to assess features. That’s understandable — not a complaint.
Saw the traveling Broadway version of To Kill a Mockingbird last night. Very good. Wife and kid3 (16) loved it. Noticeably Sorkin dialogue but not in a bad way. Interesting updating of sensibilities, taking the same elements to make Atticus seem more explicitly naive for believing in the system and his fellow citizens. Excellent performances throughout.
So I’ve been thinking about what would be the best “deep dive” episode of Serious Trouble — as opposed to a breaking news episode — and of all the suggestions we’ve gotten I think I like “how to be a good client” the best. What to do when you’re threatened/sued/investigated, how to find a lawyer, care and feeding of your lawyer.
