Any #squash growers know why this might be happening to my butternuts? The leafs close to the original planting spots are yellowing. I've tried keeping it watered, and I've tried letting it go dry for a week or so. I've also used fish emulation twice this summer on these plants. I did use a hugelkultur method on this bed, where the bottom 1/3 of the planting medium was pine tree arborist chips from a tree I had removed. I don't know if that is causing the problem, or something else. #garden
@NotMyBub so the issue is widespread it seems with all types of plants all over the supply chain. What a colossal fuckup. I hope farmers are getting a more consistent product than we are, or else it's going to cause some major issues beyond home gardening

@NotMyBub SAME HERE. I thought I was going insane or there was some herbicide damage. I'm really shocked at how poorly managed seeds were this year from so many different fronts.

Where did you source your seeds?

@dnc Also, there are some organic sprays and substances you can use to reduce these pest problems. I've seen some people use aluminum foil wrapped around where the stem touches ground on winter squash to reduce vine borers. Having multiple connection points for roots also helps. I haven't done too much yet because it's my first year growing these but I try and proactively discover potential issues and prevent it the best I can. Losing crops sucks but its a good learning process
@dnc was that portion of squash sitting on the ground? Usually pest entry points are pretty easy to spot. Gotta cut around them! It's the sacrifice we make to be organic, sustainable gardeners. 😀
