New here came to find peace from the bird app and people who care about democracy and equality. We can create a better future if we fix technology that connects us.

Something I think we can do better here:

Labeling people and putting them in their place was thought of as fun sport on the Bird site. But we should try to have a little more patience here.

Sometimes people just want to be a part of things -- if they are clumsy and we crucify them for trying, that doesn't speak well of us as a society.

Where viable and safe, gently engage instead of dismissing or categorizing people. See the individual. Let's not put up walls before we've even begun.

Give her what she really wants this holiday season. Death to the patriarchy, an ancient tome of curses from the forest witch, the hearts of her enemies, and deep pockets in every dress and pair of pants.

You may/may not have a lot to give, but try this, it will make you feel good: Go into a local school and pay off a child's past-due hot lunch debt. Also, write a note, but don't sign your name. Do it anonymously. It will make a difference. I dare you not to cry.

So looks like it’s the former: Mastodon is simply overwhelmed right now because of new users. Hence cross posting is super slow.

To all users: PLEASE BE PATIENT. To fedi server owners: you’re not going to like what I’m about to say but it’s time to seriously spend money on servers and bandwidth. Mastodon is about to become real competitor to Twitter and we have to be ready for new users. #TwitterMigration

NPR: #Facebook actively fueled #ethnic #violence in #Ethiopia's #civilwar by prioritizing hateful and dangerous content, then not moderating that content fast enough, or sometimes at all, says a new lawsuit filed against #Meta, the #socialmedia giant's parent company. https://www.npr.org/2022/12/17/1142873282/facebook-meta-lawsuit-ethiopia-kenya-abrham-amare
A $1.6 billion lawsuit alleges Facebook's inaction fueled violence in Ethiopia

One of the plaintiffs says he contacted Facebook several times about posts threatening violence against his father, who was murdered by members of a militant group.

#JohnMastodon is proof that things *CAN* go viral here on Mastodon, but the key is that *YOU* are the algorithm. The reason that the John Mastodon meme showed up on other people's timelines is because so many users boosted the posts.

The lesson here is: please don't just favourite something if you really enjoyed it; BOOST it so that other people can enjoy it, too! This is the only reason why I bother to create as large a social graph as I can on Mastodon—to act as an amplifier. You can, too!❤️😉

Anyone still on twitter please tell people to follow me here!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I didn’t have a chance to post about my Mostodon bc Musk was banning links to it #twitter #tech #technews #twitterexodus #TwitterMiragration

Any journalist who is happy *some* of you have had your #Twitter accounts restored, while others are STILL #suspended without a shred of justification, simply do not understand where #elonmusk is going with this.

He plans on monetizing the mob to humiliate you and keep you compliant. Your intentional targeting and discomfort will be a financially valuable form of entertainment.

Sorry... (really not sorry at all). I asked ChatGPT to write a Jay-Z song name checking John Mastodon, and the results were so much better than I could have expected.... #JohnMastodon

For those of you who are also considering to sign up for Post, how concerned are you that Andreessen Horowitz (A16Z), an investor of Post, contributed 400 million to Musk’s takeover of Twitter?
