Goddamned nerds stop asking be about the D&D open license thing. I don’t know about open licenses and also I am interested in REAL goddamn nerd stuff like whether there need to be more items in 5e that increase your spell DC because the vampires kept saving against my Sunbeam last night.

Excellent and well balanced piece by Teri Kanefield. I regret scrolling away from the original Post that showed it to me. 😞 (Say hi!)

Twitter Alternatives: Mastodon, Post.news, Threads, Bluesky, and others - Teri Kanefield

Spoiler: People are evaluating the various Twitter alternatives as separate entities, but if Post.news and Meta’s Threads, follow through with their promise to federate, the way to think of the platforms will be “walled gardens” v. platforms that are connected to the fediverse. If you know what these words mean and how they relate to … Twitter Alternatives: Mastodon, Post.news, Threads, Bluesky, and others Read More »

The New York Times Declares War on LGBTQ People With Hire of Anti-Trans Columnist

Hello, readers, Back in November, I wrote a piece explaining my key takeaway from the midterms: the press is out of touch with the public. After 2016, pretty much every mainstream media outlet took a few big steps to the right in hopes of not being called “fake news” by the new president, and then kept moving to the right in response to Democrats winning the House in 2018, and Democrats winning the House, Senate,

The Popehat Report

Andy Ngo has been trying desperately to silence my reporting on his record of lies and thuggish legal threats against his critics.

In Sept 2021, Andy Ngo's lawyers threatened me with legal action for exposing his lies. @Popehat replied to their frivolous and baseless legal threats on my behalf in the now famous "oily poutine" letter. https://www.techdirt.com/2021/10/01/ken-popehat-white-again-shows-how-to-respond-to-completely-thuggish-legal-threat-letter/

Try turning the House of Representatives off and on and see if that works.
BTW, here's a little interesting fact. You may have noticed that cameras in the House the last few days are frequently focusing on groups of congresspersons and areas other than the front of the chamber. This is NOT typical. C-SPAN operates the cameras and feeds them out. Normally, House leadership controls where the cameras point, and that is virtually always to the front, avoiding any other areas or groups of persons in the chamber. But with the House leadership in limbo, C-SPAN has full control, and they're wisely making the most of it!

Andy Ngo and Elon Musk apparently confirming that Musk personally suspended my Twitter account at Ngo's request, following Ngo's multiple failed attempts to silence my reporting on Ngo's ties to violent right-wing terrorist groups.

I call on Musk to release all his communications with Andy Ngo. Let's bring some transparency to Twitter. https://twitter.com/MrAndyNgo/status/1611118439812456448

A reminder that on Mastodon you are the algorithm. If you’re seeing content you don’t want, block or filter it out. Boost things you want more of. You control what you see. It’s better than trying to control others. Focus on curating the kind of feed you’re interested in.

If you don’t want to see politics, unfollow people who post or boost a lot about politics.

The #birdsite is very passive in terms of what it demands from you. Mastodon isn’t. It’s a mind shift but it’s a good one to make.
