Such an important observation!

"Ad-driven social media platforms are willing to tolerate monumental volumes of abusive users [because] hate and fear drives engagement, and engagement drives ad impressions.

Mastodon is not an ad-driven platform. There is absolutely zero incentives to let awful people run amok in the name of engagement."

I Was Wrong About Mastodon – EscapingTech

I said that Mastodon moderation wouldn't scale, it does. The cultural differences will likely continue to maintain a friendlier atmosphere regardless of size.

@juliusrajala Welcome! May I suggest exploring the platform with patience. There are a lot of people here! I came from tweetex, or whatever it is called today. The hashtag system works well here!
Hello everybody. It has been awhile. We are traveling by train this week to NYC again! We have found a restful way to travel to the busy fun of The Big Apple.
The #Cruzbike has graduates to the open road plus some trails. Living the comfort!
@Triple5 Hi Triple!! I’m new here also. How i hooked up with others was by just tooting a bunch of hashtag labels that reflect what interests you, then click on them from your published toot. I made up the labels and found I was not alone!
Example, I own a #CruzBike and wanted to connect with others. Nada. But I #’d #recumbents. And #cycling and BINGO! I’m started!
Have fun. I bet there are hundreds of people looking for you, too.
Peace

Hi Dallas! Retired firefighter here with basic hazmat responder certification long expired. The E. Palestine, OH wreck seemed to me, although not obvious to most folks, pretty well managed. Burning is always dramatic and scary. Have you seen any details on burn vs containment vs. BLEVE risk from that incident. (BTW I live in OH and think it does a good job training us. )
Thanks!!

Hello! I’m new here, too. I’m getting used to a MUCH quieter social media experience here and like it very much!

#Cruzbike, #recumbent
Got in five miles training on the CruzBike yesterday.

Yesterday’s learning topic: Steering.

I am so used to a long wheel base upright touring bike that the turns are a bit startling on the Q45. Steering becomes easier when I learn to relax my shoulders and gently grip the bars. The lean and counter-steering skills help and are morphing toward becoming natural.
An upright bike took training, too, even if I forgot that.
CruzBikes are front wheel drive recumbent cycles.

@MikeFromLFE it can actually be peaceful.
@[email protected] looks la like a rim pinch finally got it’s way with you. Quite a surprise, eh? I’m hoping you weren’t going downhill fast!
@Johto
MH Meds take time to do their thing. Sleepiness has a a side effect I can’t accept, personally. Let’s hope it subsides and the medication works great for you!
