@jollysea "To be a have-not and be talked to by the haves has an air of the farcical to it." Powerful stuff.

That's a fascinating article and it's clear why we're not supposed to read it!

"What I received wasn't a crash course in Formula 1—in fact, Formula 1 only became more mystifying to me—but journalism, as viewed by the other side."

Behind F1's Velvet Curtain

If you wanted to turn someone into a socialist you could do it in about an hour by taking them for a spin around the paddock of a Formula 1 race. The kind of money I saw will haunt me forever.

A socialist writer skewered the Formula One scene. Then her article vanished. (Washington Post)

Editors for Road & Track aren’t saying why they yanked Kate Wagner’s Formula One article from the website shortly after it published.

I saw Ozempic-riddled influencers and fleshy, T-shirt-clad tech bros and people who still talked with Great Gatsby accents as they sweated profusely in Yves Saint Laurent under the unforgiving Texas sun."

Road & Track

A few days ago, an article about Formula 1 by cycling journalist Kate Wagner was published on Road & Track's website. Its focus was the power dynamics of F1, and the enormous amount of money flowing at races, and it was a phenomenal bit of writing. Hours later, it was scrubbed without trace from the website, though the archived version remains. It's linked in this story from Defector, where journalist Patrick Redford tries to figure out exactly what went down.

Road & Track EIC Tries To Explain Why He Deleted An Article About Formula 1 Power Dynamics | Defector

This past Friday, right before the start of the 2024 Formula 1 season, Road & Track published a first-person dispatch from architecture critic and sportswriter Kate Wagner, who attended the United States Grand Prix in Austin last October. As Wagner wrote in the piece, Road & Track “forwarded me the opportunity on behalf of” the […]

A friend sent me a link to an article about Formula 1. “Not sure how this reads to fans of F1, but I thought this was just an exquisite essay,” they wrote and shared a link to an article published by Road & Track magazine. Except the link didn’t go
