James McBride’s radical approach to fiction ~ The Atlantic.

“What binds his characters is what most concerns McBride. In keeping with the jazzman’s ethic (he’s an accomplished jazz musician himself), he lets them each take solos, glorious horn-blowing ones. But the power of the story is in the way these individuals all fit together—sometimes hindering but more often helping one another muddle through their shared reality.”

I placed my phone up against a beer can on a picnic table and set it for a 30-second nighttime exposure.

I am sometimes surprised by what it picks up that I cannot necessarily process with my own vision.

This capture absolutely floored me.

@blackbulldog What a great quote! Thx.
@gladsdotter Luckily it was just taking it’s sweet time about leaving. I watched for hours till it finally did leave, then leapt for the window, closed it tightly, and had quite a late night half listening in case it somehow found its way back inside. Then I got some delicious sleep. 🤗
@Cateo Thanks Cate. Can hardly begin to tell you what a relief it is. Luckily the advice I got was great, AND it worked, though the wait and watch was excruciating. ;)) Such a relief to close that window though, even tho it was only open a sliver, since it’s winter here. 🤷‍♀️ And not to hear those strange intrusive sounds in the night. 🫤
Way, way past my bedtime but it’s been 24 hours of very tiring possum wrangling. I succeeded in getting it out of my little apartment tho with some good advice from a possum expert and no harm to it or me. So relieved, and will sleep a lot better than last night when I kept hearing it scuffling around in the living room doing it’s nocturnal adventuring. 🤷‍♀️ So, phew. And goodnight all. ✨
