I stopped along the Anacostia for a snack and this little guy joined me! Beaver?
@drvolts @billmckibben I finished #TheDeluge and it was AMAZING. I had my little nit picks (handcuffs in a lock box?so much food inflation but the price of carbon is only $100/ton in 2040?), but the depth of the world building, plot, and characters is stunning, not to mention the scope of covering from 2013 to 2040 with such realism. It's truly epic. Every time I close the book, I thought, 'get out of my head' to the author (I was too engrossed while reading to think that) #SpeculativeFiction
High-Tech Police Weapons Do More Harm than Good

In December the Los Angeles Police Department rolled out the BolaWrap, a hand-held weapon that shoots a Kevlar cord with hooks on it that wraps tightly around the targeted person.

No thanks: "A new law enforcement tool, the #Bola Wrap remote restraint device... may be piloted this spring in Washington, D.C. The Bola Wrap is a hand-held pre-escalation apprehension tool that discharges a Kevlar® cord to restrain uncooperative suspects or nonresponsive persons in crisis from a distance."
I want to read other peoples’ thoughts on these things: 1- Atlanta police killed one of the tree sitting protestors blocking #CopCity. 2- AZ cutting off #water to neighborhoods 3-GA politician fined for passing out water to someone in line to vote 4- new DC traffic safety investigation system makes it hard to fix a spot where someone is killed #TSI 5- DC decision that @ggwash training was an unacceptable ‘gift’ for neighborhood commissioners.
@drvolts mild spoiler alert: 200 pages in, in 2028 and it’s good, though not the future I predict. The faux op-Ed from @billmckibben on fee and dividend and the reference to the Skocpol report were amusing. Reads like the IRA passed after this was written, which I assume was the case.
I’m 100 pages into #thedeluge by which I picked up from Solid State Books after reading the #WaPo review and seeing @drvolts endorsement. I just got to the near future- 2025. Started v strong for me w/ a relatable climate scientist. Second chapter was so boring (post modern text boxes about characters I didn’t need that much on), I struggled. Now I’m drawn in! He brought in a feisty activist character I like so far :) 800 pages to go. #bookstodon #clifi #speculativefiction
I just finished reading the book “You made a fool of death with your beauty” and loved it, but it’s the second book I’ve read recently with a character named Keya who’s dead! It’s so novel seeing my name in a book at all, but now I want to see it in a character who is alive. Anyone know of a book with an alive Keya in it? #romance #bookstadon #bangla
I just witnessed a hit and run of a #pedestrian at 12th and H st NE in #dc. The guy was crossing at a crosswalk and was hit so hard the #car bumper and side mirror flew off. He blacked out but is otherwise okay. After 30 begging MPD finally agreed to take our statements. They were going to do nothing at all. The driver came back after a while and they didn’t even write a ticket. This happens all the time and there is no record bc MPD isn’t even required to report it to DDOT. #TrafficViolence
