"Fediverse" (or "fedi") is a more inclusive, general term.

As more and more people are asking me about Mastodon I felt a need for a picture to point at, showcasing how the software known as Mastodon fits into the much larger concept of the Fediverse. I made this infographic to help myself and others explain the many different use-cases

@mmasnick The one thing I don't like is that you can't search for general text. You can only search for hashtags or handles. So if I wanted to search for toots about flowering magnolias or Grover Cleveland I can't do that. I can do that on the other place. I hope this is something that Mastodon is going to fix.
Mike Masnick ✅With each new surge of Mastodon users, I feel the need to point out:
1. Welcome!
2. There is a learning curve here, but most people find it short and not very steep. Play around, explore. You'll get it.
3. Lots of people are willing to help.
4. Yes, it's different than Twitter. Sometimes in good ways, sometimes not. But you'll figure it out.
5. With surges especially, things sometimes get slow/glitchy, but they usually get fixed pretty quick.
Be patient.
@mikemadrid I don't understand why any businessman would spend so much money to buy Twitter and then run it in the ground. It makes no sense.
@ScrewTheChew2 What I hate is that you can't search for plain text. You can only search hashtags or users. So if I want to find toots talking about flowering magnolias or Joe Biden I can't do so. That's a major flaw that needs fixing. Also, most of the people I follow on Twitter are not here. I will miss them if Twitter goes belly up.
