"Fediverse" (or "fedi") is a more inclusive, general term.

As more and more people are asking me about Mastodon I felt a need for a picture to point at, showcasing how the software known as Mastodon fits into the much larger concept of the Fediverse. I made this infographic to help myself and others explain the many different use-cases
I loved the scenes between John and Kristen yesterday especially how they referred to their past as a couple #Days

1. Welcome!
2. There is a learning curve here, but most people find it short and not very steep. Play around, explore. You'll get it.
3. Lots of people are willing to help.
4. Yes, it's different than Twitter. Sometimes in good ways, sometimes not. But you'll figure it out.
5. With surges especially, things sometimes get slow/glitchy, but they usually get fixed pretty quick.
Be patient.
If Twitter goes belly up look at the bright side. Westboro Baptist Church will lose a major platform.
I'm using Tusky to access Mastodon. When I click the magnifying class to search and I type Musk I get no results. What am I doing wrong? How do I search posts from everyone?
I've been on the other place for years. I have so many followers I enjoy. Account suspensions are happening over there. If it goes belly up I don't have contact information for 99% of accounts I follow. Furthermore they will likely go to different platforms so no central place I can follow them all. I hope the other place survives and the doomsday people predicting its demise are all wrong.
