Male code witch in Melbourne/Naarm, AU. Half of Hello Code, we make a thing called Exist for tracking data about yourself. Leftist. Trying to make a game too. Fuck LLMs.

For your considerationhttps://exist.io

My desktop/local media player made with Godot is now complete enough that I use it daily to play music. There's a bunch of compromises in using a game engine to make a GUI app, but overall I'm pretty impressed. It's all fairly abstracted and high-level and yet performance is great without much tweaking. I'm going to write a blog post about it sometime soon.

#godot #godotengine

A little while back I read a blog post from someone saying that #godot was a good choice for cross-platform GUI apps, even though it's a game engine. I've had many troubles with my #rust GUI library choice of Iced for my media player, and I've made game stuff in Godot before, so I decided to give it a go! There are compromises, of course, but I'm pleasantly surprised with how well it's worked so far.
If you have questionable taste in women, Mondays are for you.
Buddhists have no qualms using the slop machine, it seems. Chatgpt's wonky Melbourne can't quite decide where Flinders St Station is or even which side of the road we drive on. Who cares, right?
We send out a yearly survey to Exist users to get a feel for how we're doing and what their priorities are for future development. This year I put in a question about LLMs. We're pretty open about our values and my hope was always that this would attract people who felt the same. But as Nickelback would say, look at this graph. 5 is most favourable, so nearly half of users surveyed feel positive about slop extrusion (n=190). Deep sigh.

I will be kind to myself. It is only computer.

They should invent a human brain that doesn't dwell on negative feedback to the exclusion of all the nice things people say

I made a little half-hour game for @belle's birthday recently, my first fully complete game ever. It's called Bird Island and it's about someone who really loves birds who goes to visit birds on an island. I wrote about how I made it in #godot here, and linked Mac and Windows downloads at the bottom. It's free! It was made with a particular audience in mind, but if you try it I hope you enjoy it too.

Many decades of programming and finally a reason found for it—my first finished game! I made @belle a birthday game in #godot about meeting her favourite birds. I wrote a blog post about the process and linked Windows and Mac builds if you'd like to try it. (Only positive comments please)
