I’m Jimi.

I quietly contemplate these days. I enjoy reading about and infrequently discussing #SciFi, #Fantasy, #Horror, #Science, #USPolitics and #Noir. I’ve been #TentCamping over half my life.

I love all #Tolkien.
#MST3K is hilarious.

HumanNot Immortal. Really.
LocationIn far Northern Illinois. Previously Braga, Pt., Funchal, Pt., Barrie, Ontario. Far Northern Illinois before all that.
Banner ImageFall is the season on the lakefront in Barrie, Ontario. A photographer in a yellow jacket sits under a reddish dynamic sculpture. New construction is visible in the background. Blue sky with scattered white clouds. The lake is reflecting the blue sky.
TootsToots disappear like tears in the rain. However it takes a while. So I got that going for me at least.
I’ve got a bose full of noogers and I’m not happy. Seriously.

Looks like cranking a wheel hard to the left will turn that off? Probably? At least if it’s not like a warp core containment failure.

Not familiar enough with factories/foundries/engineering plants to know if this is even science fiction, frankly. Beamy thing is sploding, good luck with that.

It isn't a coincidence. Both Mar-a-Lago face and drag are about constructing very specific and exaggerated representations of femininity that subvert traditional notions of the "natural" feminine. The motivations are diametrically opposite, but the method is the same.

Spouse just asked me add toothpicks to the shopping list and that reminded me of a quick tip that could help you out of a jam one day

If you've got a wood screw that's stripped out its hole and won't tighten up anymore, you can put some wood glue on a toothpick, jam that in and trim off the end and you'll have a reinvigorated hole that the screw can bite into again

This is an old pinball repair trick that carries over into non-pinball life. One time I had a couple mates over and we were gonna watch a spooky movie, we put the kiddo to bed and as I was closing her bedroom door it just, fell off the top hinge in my hands haha

Stood there holding the door on one hinge all 🦝 honey can you go grab me a couple things lol

Didn't let it hold up our plans, just pulled the door, stuffed the holes full of toothpicks and wood glue, screwed it all back up and went on with the evening, took maybe five minutes and years later it's still holding just fine

Here is a picture of a bigger lamplighter bike if you are curious.

We did discuss @objo building a full scale lamplighter and I was very much up for riding around on that but my wife vetoed the idea so @objo made this "mini" one and surprised me with it.

I have to say though, that it is incredibly cute. 😍

@ruari I learned something today! Tall bikes cobbled together from multiple frames are not uncommon around here, but I always assumed they were just some wacky trend that got started for the fun of it. I never knew they had historical precedent.

Very ingenious, those lamplighters! Slightly safer than doing the same on a 6' unicycle.

@DaleTrexel They are mainly built for fun these days. However some people have interesting cargo bike designs with the storage below, so tha the size of the bike optimised for short length rather than height.

So yeah, #TallBikesArePractical even today πŸ˜‰

@DaleTrexel Look at all the storage area available on one of @objo's other bikes! πŸ’ΌπŸ§³
@ruari Storage capacity yes, but center of balance with the rider up high and storage above the axles... still seems pretty dodgy to me!
@ruari How much taller is that than a penny farthing?
@Linnefaulk Not a lot. The seat on the penny comes up to my shoulder, this is above that but not as high as my head. However I am running the seat a bit low because the seat post is too short. πŸ˜†
@Linnefaulk Oh, you meant the real/classic one? A lot taller!!!
@Linnefaulk I've seen references to them being over 7ft, so yeah, really tall!
@ruari Falling off the bike is bad enough, but add 7’ to it? πŸ™‚β€β†”οΈ
@Linnefaulk and at speed!
@Linnefaulk Here is a better reference for the size of this baby lamplighter, if you had not seen this image yet. I'm 6ft and remember, the seat is too low for me. πŸ˜‰
@Linnefaulk Something about this being a mini/dwarf version of the bike and yet at the same time it almost being as tall as me amuses me greatly. 😁
