I misread this as “Vanilla and Academia”, and wondered what it would smell like. Chalk dust? Sweaty undergraduates in an unventilated tutorial room? Despair?
A perfect holiday weekend

@ddrekonja @gpollara Re ASB, in the renal transplant unit where I work, ASB is not routinely treated but these do often seem to progress to UTI. We are finalizing a small bacterial genomics study now which might shed some light. Might be some early warning signals at/after transplant in the stool.
@gpollara In fact they do! We get bucketfuls. Can’t vouch for entire UK but they do well here in sunny Kent. I’m sure London is warm enough too. If you’re interested I can let you know our hardy variety. Next time I see you I’ll bring you some jam.
@ddrekonja @gpollara Agree. But the opposite can be a problem too - not treating symptoms where MSU is deemed “negative” due to >1 uropathogen or because cfu is below the arbitrary threshold. Mixed growths can be clinically significant and there are reasons why planktonic bacteria might be absent from infected people’s urine (e.g. intracellular bacteria) - or urine might be overly dilute from high water intake. Or the bug might be pathogenic at lower cfu…
A beautiful day to spend all day setting the garden to rights. Check out these apricot blooms…
@alanrew thanks for this!
