Saw Violent Night last night. Great fun, totally bonkers, thoroughly enjoyed it. Gently used it to broach the possibility of maybe not watching Die Hard next year, but maybe watching this again instead.

Shot down. Firmly shot down.

Absolutely delighted to see the Gender Recognition Bill resoundingly pass in the Scottish Parliament today, making us the 15th country to have this. Anything which moves to make it safer for trans people to be their authentic selves to be welcomed. 🏳️‍⚧️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

That time of year when dull people ask “why aren’t you drinking?” Forgetting there are only two types of answers: the boring and the heartbreaking.

I don’t want to know why you don’t drink, I just want to respect your choice.

Order fancy (cheap) felt coasters in a tree shape from large online shop.
Wait.
Coasters arrive, but instead of the pictured bright rainbow colour selection, there's 2 colours, Baby pink and dull blue.
Buys dye
Manages not to dye self
Removes coasters from dye.
Dye rinses straight off, leaving the coasters completely unchanged.
Bah.

Public Service Warning

Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when Musk pulled the employee purge.

It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.

We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.

Frozen cobwebs
It's that time of year again when all the hassle of putting the decorations up is rewarded with having my Good Omens tree topper back out.

Discussing cumulative weight of events in driving history with the 12 year old. Because he's been watching videos about how say, Britain would be radically and unrecognisably different had Harold won at Hastings.
I don't believe history hinges on single events and was explaining this but now my head hurts.
When my mum retired, she started researching ou family tree. A good hobby for a former librarian. We found that on my mother's side, our family had links to the Aberdeenshire town a few miles away where my sister now lived and that on my father's side, we have links to the English town I had moved to years earlier, a Victorian relative was a policeman here. Then this morning this came up in my twitter feed.
That surname is my maiden name.
Incidentally, don't Google "pottery cottages" looking for these things, I ended up down a rabbit hole of aparticularly nasty hostage taking/ murder from the 70's
