Vaya con Dios, Flaco… 🦉😔

Died after whacking into a building on West 89th Street. One year of pure freedom after 13 years of captivity. Truly a New York story. https://newsroom.wcs.org/News-Releases/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/22056/Flaco-the-Eurasian-Eagle-Owl-Has-Died.aspx

Positive COVID test today on two rapid antigen tests! 🤒

Fully vaxxed and boosted. Probably got it on the bus or train. 🤔

Waiting it out. Nothing else to do! 🤷‍♂️

Visited my parents grave today. First time in 18 years. In the past, I went with my brother and sister, but they are impossible (and toxic) to deal with since they have become “born again” Jews. 🪦

Left rocks on their gravestone as is the tradition. 🪨 (1/3)

Deep cut, but in addition to Stanley Kubrick and Jacques Tati references in “Barbie” (2023), I have a hunch we can add Francis Ford Coppola to the list as well. 🤔

Specifically, “One from the Heart” (1981) which made extensive use of miniatures and forced perspective. 🎞️ #Barbie

10 to 18 human beings were killed and there was barely any coverage in the local media; at least from what I noticed.

Thankfully he has been caught, but still… I feel these murders were ignored. 😔

Happy posthumous Father’s Day to my father and everyone who has lost a father. This day filled with complex emotions.

First pic is of my dad (right) and a co-worker at the box factory he worked in.

Second pic is of the entrance to the former box factory at 67 Metropolitan Ave.

The context of this was me and Onion production designer Scott Templeton coming back from seeing Roberto Benigni’s “Life is Beautiful” (1998) at the Majestic Theater.

We came back from seeing it and he immediately went on a “Why didn’t the Jews fight back?!?” rant. (2/7)

Happy Memorial Day to my dad who is standing dead center (no hat) with his Polish Army colleagues in 1944. 🇺🇸💐

He was 19 years old and had already experienced his father’s death from Malaria in a Soviet Labor Camp when he was saved by “Ander’s Army” which was a unit formed by Władysław Anders from Poles who were imprisoned by the Soviets during World War II.

May he and his colleagues be remembered and memorialized for what they did to survive that hellscape. 😔

Stopped by 505 Carroll Street today. Former home of “J&A Knitting Mills” in the 1980s; the sweatshop where my mom worked.

Current home to the “Brooklyn Zen Center” and the “Textile Arts Center.” That always cracks me up! A Zen center and a textile arts center in place where my mom’s sweatshop was.

She carried a buck knife and sharpened screwdriver on subway to protect herself back in the day. (1/2)
