Honestly, it always seemed strange that there was a serial killer on Long Island for TEN (!) years and media barely covered it.

Glad this worthless motherclucker was caught, but somehow I feel he could have been found sooner if there was more attention given to these murders. 😔 https://gothamist.com/news/the-author-of-lost-girls-on-the-overdue-compassion-for-slain-long-island-sex-workers

The author of 'Lost Girls' on the overdue compassion for slain Long Island sex workers

A lot has changed in the case – and the culture at large – since 2011, says Robert Kolker, whose book “Lost Girls,” about the Gilgo murders was adapted into a Netflix film.

Gothamist

10 to 18 human beings were killed and there was barely any coverage in the local media; at least from what I noticed.

Thankfully he has been caught, but still… I feel these murders were ignored. 😔

@JackSzwergold 4 of the women had DNA apparently matching this man. Only 4. The cops would not release the Shannan Gilbert 911 tapes bc she implicates the department. The doctor who lived at oak Beach was a former doctor for the county police. I live here. I grew up with kids who grew up on Oak Beach. I know those homes.
@JackSzwergold It sounds like police corruption played a huge role in the mishandling of the case.
