Honorably Retired, but concerned about future generations.
According the NYTimes, 1 million humans were displaced in Lebanon during the first week of the current war. (Roughly equivalent to the combined US population of Florida, New York, Connecticut and Iowa.) And 1/4th of Lebanon's land mass had been ordered evacuated. (Everything east of the Mississippi, for comparison.) I hadn't noticed. Thanks, Ralph Nader, for breaking through my bubble. https://nader.org/2024/10/18/goodbye-lebanon-high-israeli-official-biden-says-ok-so-far/

BREAKING NEWS - Monday, July 8, 2024 12:34 AM ET
Boeing has agreed to plead guilty to conspiring to defraud the federal government over two deadly crashes involving its 737 Max plane.
In the deal with the department, Boeing also agreed to pay a $487.2 million fine and invest at least $455 million over the next three years to strengthen its compliance and safety programs. COMMENT: So now #Boeing is a convicted felon, but still the CEO has not resigned with immediate effect or been removed by the feckless board of directors. Sure, he’s leaving at the end of the year - but he should not be granted a single day, let alone the golden separation package promised him. Why is no one in jail? This corporate negligence cost hundreds of lives. #Aviation #Airlines #Capitalism

Happy Juneteenth! June 19 is the anniversary of the day in 1865 that Union soldiers marched into Texas and made law the last 250,000 slaves’ emancipation, which is why Juneteenth is also known as “Black Independence Day” and “the Black 4th of July.” A great example of solidarity happened four years ago today. 58,000 union dockworkers shut down ALL west cost ports on Juneteenth in solidarity with George Floyd demonstrations.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”The quote in this poster from Theodore Roosevelt is a good reminder in trying times.  Use this poster to remind those who equate patriotism with unreasonable loyalty.

Bayard Rustin was an unsung hero of the Civil Rights Movement, and instrumental in organizing the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. He also directed a mass boycott of segregated NYC schools in 1964.

The Kennedy administration threatened to isolate him for being gay. As a result, he was sometimes sidelined, but always brought back for his organizing abilities.
