I get pissed off when prominent people with money and influence cynically lie to the public about elections and voting technology — esp when they seek to undermine public confidence in the legitimacy of election outcomes

Last night, in Pennsylvania, Elon Musk said a lot of bullshit about elections. So I wrote an op-ed for MSNBC.

Here are the facts.

Everything Elon Musk just said about elections is wrong

Musk repeated lies that Donald Trump has peddled about mail-in voting and voting technology, including a claim that Dominion helped rig the 2020 election.

Last wk, this topic was a popular thread. So I turned it into an article:

“By-Mail Voting 101”

How do you get a ballot & complete it correctly? What about security, signatures, validation & getting it counted? USPS or drop boxes?

It’s all here.

Please re-post!🗳️🇺🇸

By-Mail Voting 101: A “How-To” Explainer - TrustTheVote

Thinking about voting by-mail?  You may be wondering: How do I get a by-mail ballot? How can I make sure to complete it correctly? Should I return it through the US Postal Service (USPS), or through an official elections drop box? What do I need to know about signatures and validation, so that my ballot gets counted? And how is this kept secure, anyway? It’s all here, in this article. Let’s begin...

PSA: By-mail voting is a secure & convenient way to cast your ballot, but to be on the safe side, you should learn about official drop boxes in your area, as an alternative to the US Postal Service.

I’m not ragging on USPS; I just want voters’ ballots to be counted on time.

For comprehensive information about by-voting, see the link in the reply, below 👇

PSA: If you plan to vote by-mail & return your ballot through USPS, the postmark is VERY important. Some states won’t count a ballot without it

You can go inside the post office & ask for a hand-stamp, b/c machines sometimes miss it.

Even better: use elections office drop boxes.

You can’t vote if you’re not registered.

See the deadlines below, and make sure you’re registered in time to vote early, or on Election Day.

Contact your local elections office for details (typically the county clerk, municipal clerk, auditor, or elections supervisor) 🗳️🇺🇸

Please re-post.

Here’s a detailed post that explains why it takes time to accurately count by-mail ballots, and why we may not know the results on election night.

I had planned to wait on posting this until much closer to Election Day, but there are already media reports on this topic, so I’m starting early (and I will repost again in the weeks ahead).

This issue is especially fertile for conspiracy theories and false claims, so please re-post. 🙏

Explainer: The Facts About Reporting By-Mail Ballots — And Why it Takes Time - TrustTheVote

As part of the chaos that’s likely to come, especially during the post-election counting period, we anticipate that false narratives about the time required to report results – and especially from by-mail ballots – are likely to be one of the key themes. In this short article, we dig more deeply into the details of by-mail counting operations, which might take days...

Most states offer ways to cast a ballot before Election Day (Nov.5).

PLEASE EXPLORE THESE OPTIONS. 🗳️🇺🇸

“Early Voting,” “Absentee,” or “In-person Absentee.”

*Voting early helps election officials and the whole country*

…by accelerating the time to count votes, which helps bring clarity and trust in the legitimacy of outcomes.

Since Trump is trying to reboot 2020, where he attacked the security of by-mail ballots, the article below provides the facts. It’s exceedingly difficult to “counterfeit” ballots. Despite what ignorant blowhards say, it’s not like using a photocopier.

Please share.

In this article, we dig more deeply into the details of by-mail voting operations, as well as the technical features associated with creating and printing ballots. Through a series of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), we show that “fake” by-mail ballots can't be simply "dropped into" an election, or into drop-boxes, willy-nilly, as some inflammatory assertions would have you believe...
