LOST ORIGINAL FRIDAY

John Lennon used the melody from an 18th century folk song about a British race horse, "Stewball" (aka "Skewball"), for the verses of his Christmas classic "Happy XMAS (War Is Over)". Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly recorded it the 1930s - and a number of folk acts from the 1960s had hits with it, too. The Hollies version is probably the most well-known.
