Helping out those in need as best as I can. Unashamedly #AntiFascist, #AntiRacist, #AntiAbleist, #AntiBigotry in all its forms. I will NOT let ANY hate slide by me.

Huh, today I found out Christine Misanderino's blog is down.

She is the creator of spoon theory, which states that disabled people, those with chronic illnesses, and neurodivergent people (among others) start the day with a much lower set of "spoons" (energy units) than other people.

Here is an article to her blog on the Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20251006172312/https://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/articles/written-by-christine/the-spoon-theory/

And the Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoon_theory

The Spoon Theory written by Christine Miserandino - But You Dont Look Sick? support for those with invisible illness or chronic illness

Please take the time to read Christine Miserandino’s personal story and analogy of what it is like to live with sickness or disability. Click HERE to download “The Spoon Theory” in PDF format. But You Dont Look Sick? support for those with invisible illness or chronic illness

well that didn't go as planned

so CatSalad's "Structured water" post made me think of "Ugly bags of mostly water" which is a quote from an episode of Star Trek that aired in 1988

However, someone heard this the first time from Dr. House, a character on the show House MD, who frequently quotes pop culture. This someone has a blog post about how that can be interpreted and how thoughtful House is.

Teach kids how to do research. I guess that's what I'm complaining about.

It's always a pet peeve when people or companies say "It's quick and easy!" or "It'll only take 30 seconds!", blanket-assuming everyone has the same number of spoons to complete what they see as an "easy" task.

So today at Beyblading? The owner of the store comes up to me with a tape measure. He asks if he can measure my wheelchair width because he wants to make sure the space between aisles and the doors at the new location will allow me to fit through comfortably.

And then he showed me the store layout and talked about how proud he was for managing the ramps they needed for proper ADA compliance and asked if there was anything they maybe missed because he knows ADA standards aren't actually perfect for these things.

Needless to say, I felt VERY cared for and if you ever are in Portland, go visit Gambits Games & Anime.

Honestly printer...same. I can't do anything, even printing in greyscale, if I'm "low on cyan" (energy in one area) so to speak.

Executive functioning? Nope! "But it only needs magenta—" NOPE.

Low. On. Cyan.

Neurotypical boiling frog: acclimates to the rising temperature and boils thinking it's in a sauna

Executive dysfunction boiling frog: fully aware of the rising temperature; precisely predicts the time at which death will occur. will get around to jumping out of the pot later, just can't even right now

People speak of hope as if its this delicate, ephemeral thing made of whispers and spiderwebs.

Its not.

Hope has dirt on her face, blood on her knuckles, the grit of cobblestones in her hair and just spat out a tooth as she rises for another go.

DON'T BE THE REASON PEOPLE WANT TO THROW TOMATOES AT YOUR FEDI SERVER

If you're on a train or bus in the UK, maybe there's not enough seats available and you can see someone who's wearing a green lanyard with sunflowers on - please offer them a seat.

It stands for "invisible disability". There's a lot of reasons why someone might be wearing a sunflower lanyard, but honestly, most of the time just being able to to sit down is the number one thing they need. An offer of a seat will never be inappropriate or unappreciated.

I'd like to link to Sean Tejaratchi's writing from 1999 on contempt for advertising, which is even more relevant in 2026 with the full-on assault of our senses from malware-ridden ads shoved into as many places as possible.

Today I found out bits of this writing were falsely attributed to Banksy in the famous "People are taking the piss out of you everyday" quote, and that Sean was the original author. I was gonna screenshot the exerpt here but not enough alt text room.
