Now into week 9 post-Covid infection and still having big problems with muscle soreness, primarily in my shoulders and neck, but also sometimes in the glutes and quads. What's particularly odd about this frustrating situation is that the pain will move from one location to another. One shoulder is bad one day and the next day the opposite side is more problematic. Nothing out of the ordinary in my blood tests from 3 weeks back.
Wow, a new track from Everything But the Girl came out today. Tracey Thorne and Ben Watt have an upcoming album (the first in 24 years). Can't wait. #music
My son digitized some of my old vinyl discs by indie bands from Winnipeg and Toronto as part of my Christmas gift. Haven't heard the Dub Rifles, Jim Eaves & Headfirst, and Monuments Galore in ages. Good fun to revisit.
Stuck at home with Covid while the family are out to the The Nutcracker by the Canadian National Ballet. So I decided to finally get round to watching the first couple of episodes of Orange Is the New Black. So glad these shows stick around for those of us who are so bloody slow...
A week or so ago, after seeing post that read, "CW: mention of death", I suggested that I didn't really need that level of protection but that, "CW: mention of Trump" would be a helpful method of keeping me from triggering content ... And now I see @globeandmail has used this exact method to curtain off a Trump story. I'm so tempted to click through ... but no ...
Wow, wow, wow. #PunchBrothers in concert in Toronto last night. Fantastic show despite a number of my favourite tracks not being included in the set. And hey, now I know it's pronounced Thee-lee.
Do we really need to be babysat to the extent that posts read CW: mention of death on @globeandmail ... Heck, if I want a content warning, I'd want it for "mention of Musk", or "mention of Trump". Now those are triggering...
Nice to see more of the journalists I used to follow on Twitter showing up here. Added @gailcollins this morning. Hopefully they're finding this platform worthwhile because their involvement is key to making @Mastodon great for the rest of us.

According to Sheera Frenkel and Kate Conger, writing in #nytimes, "Before Elon Musk bought Twitter, slurs against Black Americans showed up on the service an average of 1,282 times a day. After the billionaire became Twitter’s owner, they jumped to 3,876 times a day.

Slurs against gay men appeared on Twitter 2,506 times a day on average before Mr. Musk took over. Afterward, their use rose to 3,964 times a day.

And antisemitic posts referring to Jews or Judaism soared more than 61 percent"

Attended a terrific @NatGeo talk in Toronto last night. Photographer Jasper Doest presented his work exploring white cranes at a Spanish garbage dump, a flamingo named Bob in Curacao and arctic fox and polar bear in norther Canada. Beautiful and powerful in its message of environmental responsibility.
