Tonight: my third straight "special" Monday livemusic. This time the final Energy Curfew thingamajig of this winter run with the Punch Brothers and (awesome) guests I'm With Her and Amos Lee. Worth enduring the corny jokes for the fantastic music. Lots of cool moments at the Minetta Lane Theatre.

“Writing songs is like a negotiation.”
Chris Thile and Punch Brothers join me to talk about crafting genre-defying music, chasing musical transcendence, and that time they accidentally wrote a hit—because sometimes, genius sneaks up on you.

Tonight: got kindly gifted a ticket to tonight's incarnation of the Punch Brothers Energy Curfew thingy at Minetta Lane Theatre. Punch Bros were excellent, naturally, but really getting Cecile McLorin Salvant sing a few songs was soul-stirring. Her version of Paul Simon's American Tune took my breath away. Was legit shivering I had the chills so bad. She's maybe the best pure vocalist I've ever experienced. Always special. Also Sean Mendez? Great fun!
Here’s a video of them playing a track from the LP:

Julian Lage & Chris Eldridge -Mount Royal
Jumping back in time with Lage to when he put out a few albums with Chris Eldridge of the Punch Brothers.
Basically, two incredible acoustic guitar players, one steeped in Jazz traditions and one in Folk/Bluegrass, complementing each other pretty wonderfully.

Tonight: first up, Punch Brothers with Norah Jones and yMusic, another glorious celebration of music, with great music.
