House Van Wassenhove 1970-74, architect Juliaan Lampens. The house is profoundly brutalist yet at the same time perfectly suited to the wooded area which surrounds it. In the care of the Dhondt-Dhaenens Museum. In 2015 the Van Wassenhove House was restored and architecture fans can now arrange to stay overnight and experience the very special qualities of the design.

Shakespeare Tower: Some time around 1604 William Shakespeare moved into rented rooms on the corner of the now no longer existing Monkwell Street and Silver Street in the Ward of Cripplegate. The Bard was the tenant of the Huguenot, Christopher Mountjoy. Hence the Barbican block nearest to the site of Shakespeare’s lodgings is called Mountjoy House. Shakespeare Tower commemorates this famous City resident.

Oskar Schlemmer Triadic Ballet

Created and choreographed by Schlemmer, Master of Form at the Bauhaus, choreographer, sculptor and painter.

It’s 1926 performance comprised of dance and music by Paul Hindemith. Today the sculptured futuristic costumes are showcased in a special room in the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.
