@Grace_Durbin asked me to come up with some affirmations for social workers. It was a tough exercise. The first ones I came up with were Stuart Smalley-level cringe. Eventually I came up with 5 that were good enough, smart enough, and that I thought, doggone it people would like. So, happy #SocialWorkMonth my friends.
For people who don’t have great family relationships, this weekend can be really tough. Just know that I see you and I’m holding you in my heart as you go through it. 💜
Hello all. I’m a clinical psychologist and researcher at The Ohio State University whose work focuses on suicide and PTSD. #suicideprevention #ptsd #cbtworks #military #veterans #ohiostate #psychology #therapy #research

A little more about me. My work focuses on raising awareness of the harms of family separations and #fostercare and ultimately working to abolish the #childwelfare system and all aspects of #policing and #prisons. My view is that our #socialwork values call for us to remove ourselves from these systems and work for their #abolition. If you’re a #socialworker or an #abolitionist, I hope to get to know you.

#Introduction

"Canada will soon allow medically assisted dying for mental illness... excluding MAID for people with mental illness, “suggests that, as a society, we don’t believe that people with mental disorders can really ever be capable of making their own decisions for themselves.” But this ethical argument raises another: Can a person freely choose to die if they don’t have an equal chance to live with dignity?"

Canada will soon allow medically assisted dying for mental illness. Has there been enough time to get it right?

With doctors divided and federal guidelines still in development, Canadians have questions about who will qualify for MAID next year – and whether it’s a good idea to give the most vulnerable an easier way to die

But just in case you’re wondering why I stumbled into a #tech server, I’m interested in that side of things too. Like right now, I’m wondering if Mastodon is prepared for this influx of users and what mental health and suicide prevention protective factors, if any, are in place!
So far, I don’t like it here. Can’t find my community. Can’t find my purpose. So, a little about me: In 2015, while advocating for #suicideprevention online, I lost a loved one to suicide. From that second on, I worked to build a platform & name for myself supporting advocates online. Still want to do that no matter where #Twitter lands, so I’m looking to connect with people in: #SocialWork #SocialJustice #MentalHealth #SuicidePrevention #DomesticViolence #Advocacy #Psychology (#Writing #Poetry)
Here against my better judgement, completely lost, think I took a wrong turn somewhere. But I’m angry at Twitter. So, there’s that.
