Not such ‘Fantastic News’ for humanity or the planet, though, is it? When I read headlines like the one below, I realise that I’m stupid to care. Caring doesn’t help; it just makes me unhappy.

Shell gas find ‘fantastic news’ for southern North Sea exploration — Energy Voice

A gas find from Shell (LON: SHEL) and Deltic Energy (LON: DELT) could prove very positive for other players with exploration targets in the Southern North Sea.

"The world remained firmly in warming’s grip last year, with extreme summer temperatures in Europe, China and elsewhere contributing to 2022 being the fifth-hottest year on record"

@Nigel_Lake Also good suggestions :-) The first of yours is also turning out to be an inevitable consequence of trying to eliminate my peak-time energy usage. I’ve spent the morning putting foam insulation around windows and I’m also installing an electricity monitor inside my house’s fuse-box to track down which of the house wiring circuits are consuming power at different times of day, and looking at programmable power sockets to make appliances run at night.
#OctopusAgile #RenewableEnergy #ClimateChaos Am I right in thinking that one of the best things everyone can do for the climate (in terms of green energy) is to avoid using electricity at peak times? If we could flatten the demand for electricity then the need for gas fired power stations would reduce, and the national grid could rely more on renewables. It’s a collective approach that anyone should do. If you switch to Octopus Agile you can reinforce that through financial motivates too.

So last new year, my Mum’s amazing temperature #scarf got seen by a few more people than my usual tweets!

So here’s 2021 (l) and 2022 (r).

The temperature of each day is represented by a line of #knitting. #climatechange

#Twitter … is Mastodon just becoming an extended audience for Twitter users? Half of my Mastodon feed this morning seems to be retweets from Twitter. Is anyone else seeing that?
I was planning my summer vacation today and wanted to visit the legendary, enormous forrest called Harz in Germany.
However, tomorrow I will be cancelling my trip after finding out, most of the entire forrest area is dead because of climate change.
Warmer weather has created optimal conditions for bark beetles which kill the spruce vegetation.
Next time someone says that climate change is not a serious problem, tell them this.
@timcore @fkamiah17 @MrInappropriate @talia_christine isn’t it great when you finally deactivate your account on the toxic bird site? It felt truly liberating.
@SueASmith but in the meantime nobody is talking about the repeal of all the EU laws that protect our rights. The bigger goal is removing our freedoms.
One of the world's largest pension funds, Dutch @abppensioen, is selling all its fossil fuel interests (€15 billion) and plans to invest, from an early stage, in large-scale offshore wind farms. Members and @ABPFossielvrij had been asking for this for years.
