Society for Open, Reliable, and Transparent Ecology and Evolutionary biology (SORTEE). | SORTEE is a service organization which brings together researchers working to improve reliability and transparency through cultural and institutional changes in ecology, evolutionary biology, and related fields broadly defined. Anyone interested in improving research in these disciplines is welcome to join, regardless of experience. The society is international in scope, membership, and objectives.

3/3 This is our ⭐️91st⭐️recommendation! We will continue to transparently peer-review your manuscripts and make them free to publish / free to read pieces of citable academic work! Try us, this is the way to go in 2024 ! #OpenScience #openaccess
Using a theoretical model, we show that the strength of gBGC should be under weak stabilising selection around an evolutionary optimum. We then provide in depth characterization of the evolutionary parameters that influence the optimal value of gBGC and the strength of selection around it. Surprisingly, we reveal that despite a deleterious effect for the population, gBGC is still beneficial to individuals, which might explain its high prevalence in eukaryotes. (2/2)

Hi everybody,

I am pleased to share with you my latest work in collaboration with Augustin Cléssin and Nicolas Lartillot:

GC-biased gene conversion (gBGC) is a process that distorts the segregation of heterozygous AT:GC polymorphisms during meiotic #recombination. This genome-wide non-Mendelian segregation has been shown to be a major source of #genetic load, earning the nickname of “Achille’s heel” of #genomes. (1/2)

Does Effective Population Size Govern Evolutionary Differences in Telomere Length?

Abstract. Lengths of telomeres vary by an order of magnitude across mammalian species. Similarly, age- and sex-standardized telomere lengths differ by up t
