i guess it wasn’t explicitly stated but my struggle here is that i’m trying to get my speedrunning setup working on Linux. running the game itself is a problem i’ve solved now (which will probably become a blog post later). i’ll have to make a new auto‐splitting solution though, and i can’t recreate my highly customized LiveSplit layout because the whole font situation is totally borked no matter what compatibility tools i’ve tried. so i might as well explore other, more native options anyway.

LiveSplit One does exist, but i’m not sure what it’s capable of. like, can it even do auto‐splitting? i just discovered there’s a cross‐platform OBS component that integrates it, so that’s what i’ll explore next i guess.

i did see that there’s an open‐source project called ā€œLibreSplitā€, but. they only officially package it for the AUR, and i’m, not going to use the AUR right now, or maybe ever.

speedrunning is i guess something destined to be stuck in old ways. since the actual games being speedrun are essentially static, the workflows established for them usually follow suit. the whole situation with SRC is similarly dismal, although that one is definitely worse because of the whole corporate aspect. at least LiveSplit is open‐source, for what it’s worth.

i really hope leaderboards.gg actually exists someday.

the timer situation for speedrunning really is quite dire, isn’t it. so many auto‐splitters have been made for the increasingly aged Windows‐only LiveSplit application, essentially entrapping entire communities into using it unless they have resources and motivation to invest in an alternative solution… of which there are very few in the first place because of how daunting a task it is to compete with LiveSplit.
i think the fact that YouTube’s redesigning their UI to make it easier to see how they’ve restricted your videos maybe says something about where YouTube is at as a platform
utterly fascinating to receive a ā€œNotice of Class Actionā€ in my Gmail’s spam folder, given that a) i am not under jurisdiction of the United States, where this lawsuit was filed, and b) it’s for users of Google services, such as Gmail

A global movement to #stopKillingInternet is coming.

Bans will wall off the open Internet. Kids locked out and adults pushed through digital ID checks.

Connection and access to information is being swept away for a policy that leaves platforms free to continue promoting harmful content for profit.
