I understand that not everyone is a fortunate as I am to have a moderately healthy relationship with my family.
Happy Holidays, everyone. I hope you had a better day than I did.
I've noticed a sharp decline over the past couple years with my family. My grandfather's passing really put a damper on things; nobody wanted to go to his house anymore for the holidays, so we started hosting it at my parents' place.
My dad's passing seems to have been a major turning point, though. My dad's side of the family was the side that I always saw during the holidays, but mom moved 3000 miles away, my house is entirely too small, and nobody else really wants to host dinner, anymore.
Gonna be real, today's been... pretty melancholy for me.
I've never really seen Christmas as a particularly religious thing, it's always just been a family gathering for the holiday, enjoying some good food, exchanging gifts, stuff like that.
What family I have left living near me just didn't do anything today, opting to instead wait until the 29th, and then it's just going to be snacks and football... at a bar... Not really the most festive thing. Honestly that really bummed me out.
The autism strikes again...
A friend of mine got me intrigued by emergency alert sirens. Found one that's been out of service for quite some time, and I contacted the fire department it belongs to. Long story short, I was told "If you want it, come take it down."
So, uh, I'm now the proud owner of a Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1003. I just gotta figure out how to dismount it from the top of a 30' pole.
Only caveat is I have to be careful not to damage any of the other equipment on the pole.
Y'know, I've been regularly referred to as the "Token Straight Guy" in a lot of the online groups I'm in. It's become a bit of a joke that the word 'Straight' has an asterisk next to it that doesn't really have a proper definition.
Lately, that stupid little asterisk has become a lot more important to me than I really ever gave much thought to.
Well I've just made an absolutely gut-wrenching discovery.
I've been fighting with adhesion issues on my 3D printer for months, and after making Z-Offset adjustments, temperature changes, leveling and re-leveling the bed countless times... I decided to check the extruder nozzle height at more than just the corners, and I've discovered the bed is warped. Fuck.
This is a manually-leveled machine so there's no way to compensate for this. I don't know what to do.
