It would be very easy to pretend I'm not as vulnerable as anybody else to brain rot from the infernal statistical guessing engines masquerading as sources of truth.

I've one colleague who is a very heavy AI user without being a vibe coder and has kept all of his wits and decision making and become noticeably more productive from it (many small prompts and lots of fast review seems to be his secret).

He is definitely in a minority. While I don't intend to stop using AI coding tools completely, I'm definitely cutting back and being much more intentional with them. Maybe build up a template and snippit library again for boilerplate, like I used to.

I'm not anti-AI.

I'm a loud, vocal proponent that anybody doing anything remotely security sensitive should be using AI bug detection somewhere in their product lifecycle because attackers definitely will be.

I use claude/copilot for some stuff I'd like to push to an intern (writing makefiles, goreleaser files, CI jobs and initial unit tests).

Reading the text below hit me hard in the feels. I've had this exact feeling a few times recently without being able to put words to it. Ooof.

@Daojoan "Stop gatekeeping!" ... "This form does not accept addresses from gmail.com"

Seriously?

Am I part of the luckiest generation alive?

@timonsku @whitequark the solution is to just move Spain further east

Anti-AI in your open source projects? Adding a CLAUDE.md, copilot-instructions.md and AGENTS.md file full of garbage instructions will significantly reduce the chances of you getting any AI based contributions.

(I'm not entirely anti-AI but I'm pro-choice for project owners, and asking nicely doesn't work)

@vicgrinberg the mass of the sun is ~1000 Jupiters. If we somehow managed to turn Jupiter into a giant fusion drive and crash it into the sun, what would the effect on the sun be?

I'm happy to handwave the mess that it would make of the orbits of the other planets for boring gravitational reasons - assume a solar system with a single Jupiter-like gas giant and a suspiciously similar star

@GeePawHill there is no conceivable amount of smoked salmon I don't think I can eat in a sitting
