Union Station served the former Illinois Central railroad passenger and freight tracks that have since been removed from Madison Street. It was purchased in 1971 by the State of Illinois after train service ended. The most recent renovation was completed in 2005.

A new multimodal transit center is under construction for Amtrak service on the expanded 10th Street rail lines.

Mount Hood two weeks ago as seen from my parents' Chicago ORD to Portland, Oregon, flight.

Their return flight from Denver to Peoria, Illinois, included a detour around a stormfront over Kansas and Oklahoma that eventually opened up on us in downstate Illinois and St. Louis before sunrise Thursday.

The swollen lake is spilling into the lower elevation waterways after heavy thunderstorms - the same front that produced tornadoes in Normal, Pontiac, and Rockton - filled the pool. Streams that feed the lake are still trickling water into the basin, too.
