I hate X but I'm not yet in love with the alternative

So in response to Reddit and Twitter, I actually *joined* social media for the sorta first time. Tumblr is clearly the most fun, with Lemmy in second. Matrix, Mastodon... doesn't feel so hot.

Did I totally misunderstand this federated instances thing? I have an account on every one of these different services (mastodon, lemmy, etc.) ... and searching for stuff that interests me is unnecessary in some Mastodon instances where the homepage is catered towards... politics, or whatever. Starting to get a headache.

Seems like the thing this community on Mastodon has only one thing in common, that we all hate Enshittification and we're angry about the social platforms we've been offered up to this point. But most of the people who feel that anger are still going to march their way onto Bluesky/Threads.
