"Being American is more than a pride we inherit—
It’s the past we step into, and how we repair it."

Who deserves credit for the economic turnaround?

In the past few months, the United States has experienced an unprecedented economic recovery. Inflation, which once measured as high as 9.1%, has since fallen to 3.7%, but without the dramatic increase in unemployment predicted by many prominent economists. Months ago, predictions of a deep recession seemed ubiquitous in popular economic discourse. Consumer sentiment about […]

Bloomberg gets its recession forecast 100% wrong, but Biden can't get any respect for strong economy

President Joe Biden has shownonce again why economics is often referred to as “an inexact science.” On Wednesday, the Biden-Harris campaign posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, two ...

"It's hard for me to take seriously voters concerns about the economy and how "bad" it is when Youngkin is getting a 56/31 approval on the economy in VA. If you thought your personal situation was so bad, why would you give props to your governor, but say the president is doing all the wrong things? A clear disconnect here that I think goes way beyond simply "people are not feeling great about it personally." There seems to be a lot of other factors, including simply partisanship."
About 70% of Republican voter opinion on the economy derives from "is my guy president".

The Washington Post offers a free lesson in how to spin the booming Biden economy into bad news

Piggybacking on Laura Clawson’s post, here’s the Washington Post: The U.S. economy churned out a blockbuster 336,000 jobs in September, smashing economists’ expectations and heightening the risk that policymakers will have to push even harder to slow...

Left-wing scrutiny of the Squad and particularly Representative Ocasio-Cortez has steadily veered from constructive criticism and needed pressure to a kind of caricaturish vitriol — one that magnifies the ways they’ve fallen short, while saying nothing about their accomplishments nor their usefulness to activist and workers’ movements.

AOC and the Squad’s List of Left-Wing Accomplishments Is Quite Long

As with any elected official, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Squad should be criticized when needed. But left-wing vitriol is unwarranted: it ignores the Squad’s many progressive accomplishments and their legislation’s aid to activist campaigns.

IRS says it collected $38 million from more than 175 high-income tax delinquents

The IRS is showcasing its new capability to aggressively audit high-income tax dodgers as it makes the case for sustained funding and tries to avoid budget cuts sought by Republicans who want to gut the agency. IRS leaders have laid out how they netted $38 million in delinquent taxes from more than 175 high-income taxpayers in the past few months. In one case, an individual used money owed to the government to buy a Maserati and a Bentley. And roughly 100 high-income individuals were discovered to claim benefits in Puerto Rico without meeting residency requirements.
