A man in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to death for his tweets, and surprise: Elon Musk is NOT funding his legal bill as promised because there's a good chance that the necessary data to identify this man came from the second largest shareholder of Twitter: the Saudi prince Alwaleed bin Talal.

Musk has been awfully silent about this as you can't really make your โ€œfreedom of speech!!โ€ argument when you assist with killing a retired teacher for the regime critic posts they made on your platform, only possible because that regime owns a huge chunk of โ€œyourโ€ platform.

Elon Musk Silent on Man Sentenced to Death for His Tweets

The incident is the latest test of the limits of Elon Musk's support for free speech.

Please stop defederating from general purpose news services, just because they sometimes do a transphobia.

I'm trans, and I'm telling you its worse for me to cut off my news sources than to read those news sources misgender people or whatever.

Seriously, come the fuck on, we just talked about this. Stop making the fediverse into some arcane and impenetrable little clique powered by unwritten rules and endless purity tests.

This is about #bbc, among others

The BBC's experiment with Mastodon is pathbreaking in English-language news -- a major organization setting up its own instance. They've really thought this through. Key language:

"We're using social.bbc as the domain, so you can be sure these accounts are genuinely from the BBC. And by linking to and from the BBCโ€™s website, we have verified our identity on Mastodon."

G'night y'all!! I'll be moving to a new instance soon I'm not sure if I'll migrate or just repurpose this one >w>
I feel like I need to take some distance from some recent drama around #calckey / #firefish. I have really tried to help build a healthy community here, and to keep us together. I was not involved in any recent decisions. I am still on a break, and need this time for personal growth and mental health. But I still think about the Fediverse and our project a lot, and will be back in a few weeks. Until then, that's all I can comment (so please don't ask me, or do not be surprised if I don't answer). Just wanted to say I'm also concerned about some things. I'm also confident we'll work it out, one way or another. My love and appreciation goes to everyone who's worked on the project. Take care y'all!
Does anyone know any #furry servers on mastodon that has a decently high character limit on posts, I might use one to write short stories again, like I did back in the day and may or may not have accumulated 20,000 followers on my wattpad account thatโ€™s now deleted thanks to false reports :3 I know of #pawb but I donโ€™t know their character limit hehe

In the U.S., recent annual estimates of bird deaths due to:

Cats = 2.4 billion bird deaths

Collisions from building glass = 600 million bird deaths

Land wind turbines = <200,000 bird deaths

Some politicians claim wind turbines โ€œkill all the birds.โ€

Butโ€ฆ theyโ€™re not really worried about birds. Rather, they prefer we stick with oil & gas over renewable #energy.

With Twitter rebranding itself out of existence, millions of websites will have to update their "follow" and "share" buttons.

A perfect opportunity to finally add Mastodon or Fediverse buttons.

School kids have a better understanding of brand roll out than Elon Musk.
