A housing shortage forces people to put all their disposable income into financing the purchase of an existing house, instead of using that money to boost their standard of living and maintaining or improving that house.
Nature does not judge your personality; sinner or saint, introvert or extrovert, happy or sad - A tree will treat you the same.
People will think someone else will fix it, yet they don't want to pay taxes to pay for someone to fix it, so society slowly declines. From picking up a piece of litter, reporting a crime or leaky pipe, returning a shopping cart, volunteer for a community group, etc. These little things can make real improvements in your neighbourhood.
Freedom needs to be contained when it causes harm to others. Unfortunately, some people claim false harm in order to take away another person's freedom.

#Signal was warranted again, and as always they gave the only data they could give: time of registration in Unix miliseconds, and time of last connection in Unix miliseconds.

yet another reminder that you can't give away data you don't have in the first place.

Since businesses started using university degrees as a tool for screening job applicants, undergraduate degrees have become a commodity. Especially business degrees. Yet as more applicants have degrees, the screening tool becomes ineffective.

Hey guys, you don’t need a mother, sister, or daughter to care about women’s rights. It’s so nice to hear a man say, when asked “why do you support [policy that impacts women and girls]?”

“Because women’s rights are human rights. And I care about and support all women.” Not just because you are related to one.

Relying on advertising for funding forces business to focus on populism, for both features and content. Subscription models force business to lock in users. One off purchases force business to build in obsolesence.

How can we train people in the art of learning to read scholarly research like a scientist?

Fascinated by this project that studied how biologists read papers, from undergrads to faculty, and why undergrads get so lost on things that experienced researchers find fast/easy.

More experienced readers focused on the data. More junior ones focused on the narrative.

Contractors get paid more that labourers because they are taking on the risk of having to put it right when mistakes are made. Then the ones who make fewer mistakes make more profit.

Unfortunately, many contractors disclaim this liability so they can boost profit by cutting quality and leave it to the consumer to fix the mistakes. And regulators do nothing to protect the consumer when this happens.
