I suppose if there is one always recurring bit of advice that I try to hold onto for my own self and for others who are coming to grips with being autistic, it's this

Learn to be kind and gentle with yourself. You are almost undoubtedly traumatized by your needs being unmet for most of your life. You have long felt that your very survival in this world has been precarious. You've not been able to thrive. You've been coping coping coping endlessly. And coping more,. And coping after the coping.

My autism is not what you observe.
It is what I experience.
It is mine. It is me.
My body, my mind, my personality are autistic. I am autistic.

What I consider a close runner-up to Sandy Denny is Julie Covington, here singing Don't Cry For Me Argentina. Beyond this No 1 hit, fame was elusive, in her acting career too. She deserved much more. Enjoy. 6/n

In my selection of beautiful music, we come to what I think is the most beautiful. I could list quite a few of Arvo PΓ€rt's compositions, but this is just the best. Whoever substituted the violin with a cello is a genius, as is this young cellist, Leonhard Roceck. Enjoy

To my mind, the most beautiful of all choral works, the Sanctus from the St Cecelia Mass by Gounod. I sat sobbing in the Royal Albert Hall when I first heard this just after 4 minutes. Enjoy. 4/n

The best voice rendering the best songwriter. Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention singing β€œI’ll keep it with mine” a Bob Dylan composition. From their 1969 album β€œWhat we did on our holidays” where there’s also a great Joni Mitchell cover. Enjoy. 3/n

So, a proper introduction seems important to me. I'm from rural Pennsylvania, now living in Illinois. My health started failing in 2017ish. Ever since, it's been a full time job to keep up with my many symptoms. Dx #hEDS in 2021, then #Primaryimmunodeficiency in 2022. I'm #ActuallyAutistic and am lousy at making and keeping friends. Still trying to avoid getting Covid makes that harder, when the majority of the world has seemingly moved on. I just want to find some kindness and solidarity here!

A dreadful dream last night. I was in a group studying Psychosynthesis, training to be a counsellor, and somebody mentioned it was hard to get to know me because I avoided eye contact. Most of the group agreed, so I had to go through an exercise in the middle of the group attempting to make direct eye contact with each person. Woke screaming inside. But this dream happened to me 30 years ago. I still have the notes. Never occurred to anyone I might be autistic β€” including me.
