@Jyoti posted a beautiful Georgian folk song. I’m starting with the first of three versions of the Sanctus from the Catholic mass. This is performed by Congolese singers and dates from the mid 1970s when it was featured in the film IF. Enjoy
This haunting piece was written by Allegri and for years was only permitted to be sung in a chapel in the Vatican. Mozart heard it and transcribed what he heard and it was available for the plebs. This choir is the best I have ever heard by some distance. 2/n
The best voice rendering the best songwriter. Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention singing “I’ll keep it with mine” a Bob Dylan composition. From their 1969 album “What we did on our holidays” where there’s also a great Joni Mitchell cover. Enjoy. 3/n
To my mind, the most beautiful of all choral works, the Sanctus from the St Cecelia Mass by Gounod. I sat sobbing in the Royal Albert Hall when I first heard this just after 4 minutes. Enjoy. 4/n
What I consider a close runner-up to Sandy Denny is Julie Covington, here singing Don't Cry For Me Argentina. Beyond this No 1 hit, fame was elusive, in her acting career too. She deserved much more. Enjoy. 6/n
