As a patron of Mastodon, I have access to the Discord with other instance maintainers. Chatting with @Gargron , it sounds like the big issue with .social is they need to do a DB server upgrade, but their host is taking a long time to provide the upgrade (holiday in Germany?).

If you're on mastodon.social, please hang tight. It will get better, but it'll take time.

If you're suggesting new servers for friends, suggest mastodon.online for now. It's a smaller instance, run by the same group.

mastodon.social has once again caught up with real-time. I haven't received the new machine for the database yet (seems like the technical issues unfortunately overlapped with some bank holidays; hopefully tomorrow) but I managed to find a way to optimize some code that seems to have helped. Thank you for being patient, and again, I'm really sorry you couldn't experience Mastodon at its best the past few days on here.
Lag issues on mastodon.social appear to be resolved, for now.

After 18 months of grad school, I am ready to take on consulting projects again. I am proficient in #PostGIS, #BigQuery, #SQL, #Javascript, #Node, #Python, and other languages and frameworks.

I am also open to business, management, and operational consulting. My contact information is in my profile.

OK.
I'm logged in to my old account on @mastodon.cloud. You can follow me here, too, if you want. I may wait and see if the @mastodon.social issues are resloved before I make a full jump.
Thing is - moving to a new instance may fix the lag for your feed. But if most of your follows are still over on .social, their posts will still be slow to show up over here.
Who's got a list of GIS folks to follow on here?
Too quite.
Interesting election results in UK.
You thought the US system was a mess?
Things are kind of quiet over here lately.
I need to start following a few more folks.
