Dominion Power claims that Virginians’ power usage keeps climbing, so they need to build new power plants that we’ll all pay for with rate hikes. Forced to release internal records, it turns out that the only increase is coming from building data centers.

Why should Virginians subsidize Amazon, whose budget is 7x Virginia’s? https://virginiamercury.com/2024/11/26/under-pressure-from-the-scc-dominion-reveals-the-true-cost-of-data-centers/

Under pressure from the SCC, Dominion reveals the true cost of data centers • Virginia Mercury

@georgetakei I was once approached by someone on a busy sidewalk handing out pamphlets and angrily proclaiming that there is no God. That felt like religious zealotry to me, so I’ve always been conflicted about the label atheist.

Donald Trump Built a National Debt So Big (Even Before the Pandemic) That It’ll Weigh Down the Economy for Years

He promised to reduce the national debt but instead increased it. It is now at its highest level relative to the U.S. economy since the end of World War II

This is one of his lesser known but profoundly damaging legacies, the explosive rise in the national debt that occurred on his watch.

Donald Trump Built a National Debt So Big (Even Before the Pandemic) That It’ll Weigh Down the Economy for Years

The “King of Debt” promised to reduce the national debt — then his tax cuts made it surge. Add in the pandemic, and he oversaw the third-biggest deficit increase of any president.

Calling it a gotcha that I "critique Biden policies after voting for him" is what's wrong with US politics today.

Voting for him doesn't mean I can't critique him—it's literally the best reason to be critical. It's called holding electeds accountable. It's how democracy works. And it’s how political parties work when they aren’t cults.

"After a Republican lawmaker was accused of sexually assaulting 15- and 16-year-old girls he had taught and coached, he was made chairman of the House education committee." https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2023/04/08/tennessee-descent-statehouse-mag-00091090
No One Should Be That Shocked by What’s Happening in Tennessee

I covered the statehouse for years. It’s been heading in this direction for a while.

Funny how the people focused on complaining about shoplifting are rarely invested in the significantly larger problem of wage theft.

I'm currently running an interest survey to identify #userresearch participants, and I'm a little surprised to see *six percent* say they rely on #assistivetech to use the web.

Now, I've only got 50 responses so far, so it's still a tiny sample, but still. Six percent is like the percentage of our audience on Firefox.

And the phase (after college for me) when they seek to become close again & —can you believe it—acknowledge some decisions you made were in their best interest and they’d / they’ll do the same for their kids. Having said that, mine are both girls, so that’s the limit of my anecdotal evidence. 😉

I stand with President Lula and Brazil’s democratically elected government. Domestic terrorists and fascists cannot be allowed to use Trump’s playbook to undermine democracy.

Bolsonaro must not be given refuge in Florida, where he’s been hiding from accountability for his crimes.

And your hands to yourself.
