The Antikythera mechanism is an ancient analog computer that was discovered in 1901 in a shipwreck off the coast of the Greek island of Antikythera. It consists of a collection of gears, dials, and inscriptions housed in a wooden box-like structure. The purpose of the mechanism was to track and predict astronomical positions and events, such as the positions of the planets, phases of the moon, and eclipses.
