Greenwashing: It’s the Biggest Game in Town

Sane Thoughts for Insane Times
@breadandcircuses You know me and therefore that I agree with Umar's essay, I have written similarly. I am struck every time I stick my nose out the door how clueless the majority are of our impending demise, let alone the real reasons. Even here, where the general IQ is higher, I find depressingly little engagement on #ClimateCrisis. As worthy as other causes are, nothing compares, and all of those things will be lost with the impending failure of agriculture. My advice: Get small and mobile.

@punko The list of game-changers and tilters is mighty long. Massive species extinction (degrading biodiversity), dirty (radioactive) and dead zones in the seas, ambient toxicity, nuclear annihilation, plague... etc. It's a regular circus. What a show.

All true, but I suggest an edit or two. "#CO2 tech is not going to help us *because* the rest of our behaviour remains atrocious."

OR

"#CO2 tech is not going to help us. Period."

I've said it once and I'll say it again. Our only remaining hope is the secret ceremonial cordycep zombie Viking dance. But, ya gotta get it right.

Meanwhile, fellow westerners, get out the marshmallows cuz fire season's coming and it's gonna be a good one this year. And next year. And next century..

The other thing to remember as we witness what appears to be a tipping point crossed vs. gradual weather change is this is not just about #energy use and #ghg.

It’s about our consumption of all resources, our cutting and burning of #forests and our ‘development’ of #farmland for our car-centric materialist lifestyle instead of getting real with ourselves.

#CO2 tech is not going to help us if the rest of our behaviour remains atrocious.

Yep, it was a good one. Hey, how are we gonna eat when primary production is out the window over the vast majority of land mass because temperatures are reaching beyond ranges of tolerance for food plants? First, energy conversion breaks down (due to instability of electrons in pigments and reaction center). Then... the water. Hope? Prayer? Nope, only the secret ceremonial cordycep zombie Viking dance will save us now. But... there's hope in that solution.

Carbon capture is similar to the Maginot Line.
