Satirical and humorous take on the news and current affairs, mostly. We are happy to mock anyone being silly irrespective of political affiliation.

We occasionally cover serious topics if we feel they are not getting the attention they deserve from regular news outlets.

Based in the UK and with contacts from around the world.

Used to post as the Dudley Tribune.

We believe everyone has the right to live in a way that suits them.

Dear Gen Z,

In 1992 Sinéad O'Connor ripped a picture of the Pope in half on Saturday Night Live to protest the sex abuse scandals in the Catholic Church. She was roundly condemned except by a few.

In the years and decades that followed the truth came out and the scope of abuse within the Catholic Church came to light. Many, but not enough, were punished. Many, but no where near enough, victims were heard, believed and lived to see some measure of justice.

I was introduced to this idea at college in the early 1980s. Calgary is the same latitude as Cornwall. The winter is typically -5 to -15 for long periods. Sometimes down to -40.

Investment tip, get shares in snowploughs and balaclavas. IPCC originally projected Gulf Stream wouldn't fail this century. However it is currently weakening significantly.

I’m starstruck by this new #JWST image of one of my favorite astronomical objects 🤩

Herbig-Haro 46/47 is a pair of jets launched by young stars, embedded in a dark nebula.

The binary stars responsible for the jets shine brightly in the middle of the image, seen as one point of light with red diffraction spikes.

The two-sided orange lobes were created by earlier outflows. More recent ejections appear as a blue line in the center of the lobes.

"Describing [RFK's] views as ‘controversial,’ I think, is dishonest. They’re not controversial. They’re false. He’s not spreading controversial views, he’s spreading lies. And so the framing matters enormously, and that’s something that I foresee being a huge, huge issue in the 2024 campaign."

Agreed!

Some key distinctions made by journalist Seth Mnookin in this sharp interview. (He wrote a book about the anti-vaccine movement in 2011.)

Author Who Debunked RFK Jr. A Decade Ago Thinks His Candidacy Is ‘Pretty Depressing’

"Describing his views as ‘controversial,’ I think, is dishonest," author Seth Mnookin said of the long-shot Democratic presidential hopeful.

A contributory factor in the decline of the Gulf Stream system is the change in salinity. Increasing polar melt and increased fresh water run off via estuaries are part of this picture.

In addition to the direct impact on UK, Irish and North European climate (will be more like Calgary with much colder winters), there is the effect on marine life.

Small changes in water density have a dramatic impact on the speed with which protozoans can move through the water.

This might sound minor but could have a major impact in your supermarket.

Protozoans are near the bottom of the food chain. Young fish, krill and many others feed on protozoans and have evolved their predation strategy to deal with the speed at which they move previously. With a reduced water density and faster moving protozoans, these species are likely to struggle to feed. If the young fish and species that the older fish rely on are struggling to catch the faster protozoans, then there will be less fish available to catch and eat. The behaviour of fish and other species has evolved over millions of years. They can't go on a seminar to learn to adapt.

The interweaved impacts of the numerous climate systems and the species that live within them are very complex. At some point key species and systems will fail. We can't predict which species and systems that fail will have the most dramatic impact and mitigate for those. To be on the safe side assume they are all critical. This isn't something we can deploy an engineering solution for.

Oh we've all done that... haven't we?

Just in case keep that to yourself. Wouldn't want that to get out.

If the US government really had alien bodies, then the US president would know about it.

If the US president knew about it, then Trump would know about it.

If Trump knew about it, he would have told everyone, bragged about it, kept boxes of documents about it at Mar-A-Lago, etc. There would be a ketchup stained original photograph of an alien autopsy on the floor of his bathroom.

Since we haven't heard him brag about having seen a photo of an alien, we know that he hasn't seen one.

Life is short. Hug a squirrel. Heck, kiss the squirrel. Now run! The squirrel is mad

I beg to differ and I know Greta Thunberg would agree.
2010, it was estimated that there were about 1.3 billion cat pictures on the internet. Today, that number is expected to be more than 6.5 billion. 15% of internet traffic is driven by cat videos.

https://petkeen.com/how-much-of-the-internet-is-cats/

That is a lot power to keep all those servers and routers going. And for what? Another video of a cat leaping out of a box. They only do it to manipulate you into liking them and allowing them to live in your home.

I have a cat. It's done all that stuff and I watched it doing it knowing it was manipulating me.

Do you video it catching and killing the wildlife? Not so cute now.

If you vote for me as world president I will remove cat pictures from the internet and save the planet!!!

Who's with me???

PS, am keeping the day job just in case...

At the last estimate there were

We have rebranded by squeezing in an X on the end of the name.

Doesn't change anything, but everyone can see how edgy we are now.

Will be checking to see if we need a permit to change the scruffy printed sign by the desk.
